Taktshang Goemba "Tigers Nest Monastery" Paro, Bhutan

Perched 3/4 of the way up a cliff is the most amazing place - this a a MUST see when in Bhutan. Most tourists take a horse to a cafe/lookout spot 1/2 way up, very few continue to the top! Inside is a cave which is accessed by some very rickety "ladders" this is the place where Padmasambhava (Guru Rinpoche) meditated for over 3 years. Well worth doing it in full National Costume, but beware it's REALLY HOT.

With Iron links dating from the 1400's this bridge was rebuilt in 2005 after being washed away. Today Chicken wire is used, but originally it would have been bamboo strips preventing you falling into the river below.

Punakha Dzong, the old capital of Bhutan. the location is stunning at the confluence of Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers. Here we arrive at the Tsechu (a week long festival) - everyone is dressed in their best national costume, the sash denominates your status. Tourists are discovering this amazing spectacle, and a few even dress in national costume (me included)
